3 Ayurvedic Essentials I’m Stocking Up On This Fall
In Ayurveda, every season has its own energy. Fall is considered Vata season — dominated by the elements of air and space. Think dry, cool, light, and constantly shifting. Just as we see it in nature — falling leaves, windy days, colder nights — we feel it in our bodies and minds, too.
For moms especially, this can show up as:
Dry skin and hair
Irregular digestion (bloating, gas, constipation)
Restless sleep
Feeling scattered or anxious
More frequent colds and coughs coming home with the kids
The Ayurvedic approach is simple: balance these qualities with their opposites — warmth, grounding, moisture, and routine. That’s why this fall, I’m stocking up on these three Ayurvedic staples:
1. Chyawanprash – The Immune Elixir
Chyawanprash is a traditional herbal jam made with amla (one of the richest sources of Vitamin C), ghee, honey, and over 40 rejuvenating herbs. In Ayurveda, it’s classified as a rasayana (rejuvenative).
Why in fall? It strengthens ojas (our vital immunity), keeps digestion steady, and nourishes the tissues during dry, cold months.
How I use it: 1 spoonful each morning with warm water or stirred into warm milk.
2. Ashwagandha – The Grounding Adaptogen
Fall’s airy, restless energy often disrupts sleep and makes the nervous system more sensitive. Ashwagandha is one of Ayurveda’s most trusted adaptogens, known for calming stress and improving sleep quality.
Why in fall? It anchors Vata, restores energy, and supports the body’s resilience to seasonal stress.
How I use it: Mixed into a warm spiced milk latte before bed to encourage deep, restful sleep.
3. Sesame Oil – The Vata Pacifier
Fall dryness doesn’t just affect skin — it also weakens immunity. In Ayurveda, daily self-massage (abhyanga) with warm sesame oil is considered medicine.
Why in fall? Sesame oil is warming, heavy, and grounding — the perfect antidote to Vata. It nourishes the skin, lubricates the joints, and calms the nervous system.
How I use it: A quick self-massage before my shower a few times a week.
✨ Ayurveda reminds us that small, consistent rituals matter. By adding warmth, nourishment, and grounding practices into our daily lives, we can enjoy the beauty of fall without letting Vata throw us off balance.
